Downturned Mouth: Lift, Refresh, Restore

A downturned mouth refers to the drooping of the corners of the mouth, often creating a serious or unapproachable expression. This occurs as the skin loses its elasticity with age, particularly in the late thirties and beyond, when the depressor anguli oris muscle (responsible for pulling down the corners of the mouth) becomes more prominent. Repeated facial expressions over time contribute to the formation of these lines, making them more noticeable.
Downturned mouth injections, also known as DAO injections, provide a quick and effective solution to lift the corners of your mouth. By relaxing the depressor anguli oris muscle, this treatment subtly elevates the smile, offering a refreshed and more approachable look. When combined with dermal fillers, the results are enhanced, giving you a refined, naturally lifted smile.
Natural + Refreshed Appearance.

At Body Sculpting Clinics, we address downturned mouth lines (DOA) with targeted anti-wrinkle injections. This treatment works by relaxing the depressor anguli oris muscle, reducing its ability to contract and thereby lifting the corners of your mouth. By preventing these repetitive movements, anti-wrinkle injections not only diminish the appearance of existing lines but also halt the formation of new ones. Our downturned mouth treatment is popular among those noticing early signs of aging as well as clients aiming to minimise the visibility of these lines. The procedure takes approximately just 15 minutes and gives results that enhance your confidence and refresh your look.
Our approach is twofold: we aim to reduce the visibility of existing downturned mouth lines and prevent the emergence of new ones. Whether you’re seeking to address these lines as they begin to appear or looking to prevent them proactively, our anti-wrinkle injections offer a convenient and effective solution. With a visit to our clinic and consultation with one of our experienced cosmetic injectors, you can achieve a more refreshed and balanced appearance.

Restore a Youthful Smile with Downturned Mouth Treatment

As we age, skin sagging and drooping become common due to reduced elasticity, collagen, and volume loss. One area that can be particularly affected is the corners of the mouth, which may begin to turn downward. This can result in a serious or unfriendly appearance, often making us look angry or sour. Overuse of the muscles responsible for pulling the corners of the mouth down—known as the depressor anguli oris (DAO)—can further deepen the downturn, exacerbating the issue.
It generally takes three to 10 days after the treatment for the maximum effect to develop fully.
The effect generally lasts three to four months, although with regular treatments it may be possible to reduce the dosage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a downturned mouth?
As we age, the skin loses elasticity, causing certain areas of the face to droop and sag. One such area is the corners of the mouth, which can turn downward, making us appear unfriendly, annoyed, or upset. This effect can be further exaggerated by overuse of the DAO (depressor anguli oris) muscle, which pulls the corners of the mouth down.
How can we treat this?
When the corners of the mouth turn downward, anti-wrinkle injections can effectively minimise the appearance. The treatment involves injecting a small amount of relaxant into the DAO muscle, preventing it from contracting and softening the downward pull.
How many units will I need?
This varies from patient to patient, like most treatments in order to determine the correct dosage you need to book in for a complimentary consultation with one of our Cosmetic Injectors.
