Fat Loss Vs. Weight loss

IMG_1898

What’s the difference: Is weight loss the same as fat loss? This article explains the difference and why the two should not be confused.

Weight loss is about lowering your body weight, however our body weight isn’t just determined by how much fat we carry, it includes muscle mass, bones, organs – its everything. Fat loss is when you want to lower your body fat, or the amount of fat your body carries. Essentially each person is born with a finite number of fat cells that either expand or contract depending on factors such as diet, exercise or even genetics.

With this clarity, you can see how a person with a weight problem is a person with a fat problem, however a person with a fat problem may not have a weight problem. That may seem more confusing then before but bear with us. For example, an athlete coming up to an event may be carrying small pockets of stubborn body fat, meaning they need to shed fat, but not weight. In fact in some cases they may gain more weight as they train due to the increase of muscle mass.

In everyday life you’ll notice the same thing. Despite healthy diet and regular exercise you still can’t move those love handles, or minimise the muffin top. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to lose weight, rather you want to decrease stubborn fat.

Once you’ve reached the stage where healthy diet and regular exercise don’t allow you to reach your body goals, treatments such as cryolipolisis (fat freezing) can be very effective. Cryolipolisis uses a non-invasive approach to permanently reduce stubborn fat without the downtime or risks involved in going under the knife (just Youtube a liposuction procedure and you’ll understand what we mean). Body sculpting technology is now so medically advanced it could be undertaken on a lunch-break before heading back to work with results taking up to 6 – 8 weeks to become totally visible.

So what does this mean in terms of your personal body goals?

Basically that good diet and exercise are incredibly effective when dealing with a larger weight issue. however, when your goal is fine-tuning or sculpting your body, non-invasive, medical-grade cryolipolisis treatments, undertaken by a trained specialist are definitely worth looking into. In the coming months we’ll be exploring exactly what to look out for when it comes to selecting a clinic to undertake a cryolipolisis treatment.
