Exfoliates: Mandelic acid is a chemical exfoliant, meaning it removes layers of debris through a reaction with the skin (rather than exfoliating via abrasive scrubs).
Promotes cell turnover: By dissolving skin cells, mandelic acid works to increase cell turnover, reducing the look of skin damage or acne.
Brightens skin: Exfoliated skin is bright skin and mandelic acid goes a step further, strengthening the skin so it stays bright with continued use.
Clears pores: The acid works itself deep into pores, penetrating deeper than other acids often used on blemish-prone skin.
Reduces hyperpigmentation: Increased cell turnover and exfoliating properties means the acid reduces the look of dark marks and sun damage.
During Treatment
First, the skin will be evaluated. Once it is determined the patient is a good candidate for the peel and all pretreatment skincare has been completed, the peel can be performed.
The skin will be cleansed to remove any dirt or oils.

What is a Mandelic Peel by Skin Genius MD?
A Mandelic Peel is a mid-strength chemical peel designed to improve various skin concerns, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and photodamage. Derived from bitter almonds, mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates while providing hydration, making it effective yet gentle on the skin.
The Mandelic Peel helps boost cell turnover, reduce skin discoloration, and enhance skin clarity. Its antimicrobial properties make it especially effective for treating acne, while also providing overall brightening and rejuvenating effects.
How it works
A Mandelic Peel uses mandelic acid, a gentle alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds, to exfoliate and improve the skin. The peel works by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed naturally, which promotes healthy cell turnover.
Mandelic acid has antimicrobial properties, which help reduce acne-causing bacteria, and it also hydrates the skin while addressing uneven pigmentation. The gentle nature of mandelic acid makes it suitable for those with sensitive skin, providing brightening, smoothing, and overall rejuvenation without irritation.
