THE LOWDOWN

5 Tips to get you back on track.

In the advent of the Pandemic, the practice of self care has become more important than ever. With the announcement of easing restrictions and the re-opening of major cities, many of us will be able to return to an increasingly active lifestyle. While many are excited to restart their health and fitness routines, complementary “tweakments” like fat freezing, a non surgical fat loss option – can help accelerate personal wellness goals.

Give up the snacking

Being at home has given us  easy access to all the snacks.  When you’re constantly snacking, especially out of pure boredom, you’re ignoring your body’s cues when it comes to hunger and fullness because you’re not allowing yourself to become moderately hungry or comfortably full. Try planning out your meals and healthy snacks for the day to avoid mindless grazing.

Watch the sugar content

If you do happen to be snacking – BE AWARE of the SUGAR content. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average Australian consumes 60 grams of free sugars per day – around 14 teaspoons of white sugar. That’s well over and above the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommended a healthy level of six teaspoons for women and nine teaspoons of sugar for men each day. While fruit is delicious and healthy, high in nutrient and fibre – try limit your consumption, especially of juices to no more that 2 or 3 servings per day and where possible eliminate any post 12 noon.

Get moving again

While we wait for gyms to reopen – get moving outside with apps like Couch to 5K.  Gyms are required to limit capacity and continually sanitise, but if you’re not ready to go back there’s plenty of ways you can still get the healthy benefits of exercise.

Stay hydrated

Step away from the iced coffee, high sugar drinks and alcohol-seltzers.Make it a goal to drink as much water as possible.  This will help to rev up your metabolism and assist proper digestion, increase your water intake to at least two litres (eight – ten cups) per day, with two cups as soon as you wake up. Aim to have your urine clear by 10am and keep it like that until the evening.
